Clickers
Clickers allow instructors to ask questions and gather students' responses during a lecture. (Clicker systems are also commonly called Classroom Response Systems, Student Response Systems, or Audience Response Systems.)
In clicker systems, each student uses a device (a "clicker") that looks like a TV remote to answer questions posed by the instructor in a specially-designed PowerPoint presentation. Summaries of student responses can be shown in real time to both instructors and students. Answers are also stored electronically for later viewing.
See Clickers for examples of clicker use in the classroom.
Ohio State has standardized on clicker devices and supporting software from Turning Technologies, LLC to ensure that that the OSU community receives a quality product and that students won't need to purchase multiple clicker devices for different courses.
If you plan on having your students purchase a clicker for your class and would like a receiver installed in a computer equiped general use classroom, please complete our request form.
Borrow Clickers
Instructors can request a loaner kit (or kits) to experiment with clickers without requiring students to buy them. Depending on the size of the class and amount of usage, a one time quarterly loan of sets may be available for instructors to decide if they would like to implement Clickers into their curriculum.
To schedule a clicker kit loan, contact OIT Equipment Loan at 292-3131, or email clickers@osu.edu.
-
Please specify how many kits (in quantities of 60 or 30 each) are needed. Loans are based on a first come, first serve basis. Software and an RF receiving antenna (USB connection; size of large thumb/flash drive) are included in the kit. Laptops with TurningPoint 2008 software installed are available for loan, and all computers installed in general use classrooms have the software installed as well.
-
The typical loan period is 1-2 days. Clickers are available for free to use for all OSU registered courses. There is a fee for clicker usage for any event or meeting that is not a registered course.
