Flash by Adobe

Adobe Flash Player is a lightweight client runtime that supports most major operating systems, browsers, mobile phones, and devices. Flash is tailored for web integration allowing interactive, rich content with video, graphics and animation.

Quicktime by Apple

Quicktime will allow you to play, view, or interact with video, audio, VR, and graphics files. In addition to playing Quicktime format files, it also supports numerous international standard formats such as AVI and MPEG files. Advanced features are accessed through Quicktime Pro, a purchased software download.

RealPlayer by RealNetworks

RealPlayer is a universal player that allows the user to view RealMedia clips, numerous international standard formats such as AVI and MPEG files as well as Quicktime and Windows Media formats. Advanced features are accessed through RealPlayer Plus, a purchased software download.

Tip: To disable RealPlayer's Media Browser, follow the steps below:

  1. Under the Tools menu, select Preferences.
  2. Select Now Playing or Player only (no Media Browser) from the On startup display drop-down box on the General tab.
  3. Click OK.

Windows Media Player by Microsoft

Windows Media Player allows for fast, flexible playing of Windows Media Audio and Video files both locally and streaming as well as numerous international standard formats such as AVI and MPEG files.

Windows Media for QuickTime on OS X by Flip4Mac

Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows Media Player on Apple operating systems. Flip4Mac WMV has been approved by Apple as an official plug-in for QuickTime to continue support on the OS X line of operating systems. Flip4Mac WMV is a free plug-in that allows QuickTime to play Windows Media files within the QuickTime player.

iTunes by Apple

iTunes is a media player that supports the subscription and management of audio podcasts as well as rich-media podcasts that include slides or video.
